- Oregon’s defeat of Oregon State last Saturday drew a 1.2 cable rating and 1.6 million viewers on Versus last Saturday, making it the most watched college football game in the history of the network. During the 2008 season, Versus “saw cable ratings increase 33% and total viewership jump 40% from the ’07 season.”
- Through 17 games, Versus is averaging a 0.3 cable rating and 306,000 viewers for NHL telecasts, up 22% in viewership from a 0.2 with 250,000 through the comparable period in ’07. Ratings have jumped 49% among men 18-34, 46% among men 18-49, and 51% among men 25-54.
- Nielsen recently asked whether 2008 was the best sports year ever, citing high ratings for various sports properties. 2008 featured the most-watched global event ever (the Beijing Olympics), the most watched Super Bowl ever (Giants/Patriots), the most watched cable broadcast ever (Cowboys/Eagles in September), and the most watched baseball game and golf events ever on cable (Rays/Red Sox Game 7 and the U.S. Open playoff).
