Final television ratings for the Accenture Match Play Championship were the second-lowest in more than a decade.
NBC earned a 1.8 final rating and 2.6 million viewers for coverage of the Accenture Match Play Championship last Sunday, down 22% in ratings and 23% in viewership from last year (2.3, 3.3M), but up a tick in ratings and even in viewership compared to 2011 (1.7, 2.6M).
The 1.8 final rating is the second-lowest for Sunday coverage of the Accenture Match Play Championship since 2001 (1.3), the last time the event aired in early January.
Keep in mind the event aired opposite the Daytona 500 for the first time. Last year’s tournament was also scheduled to go head-to-head with the race, but rain delays pushed the Daytona 500 to Monday night.
On Saturday, coverage of the tournament earned a 1.3 and 1.9 million viewers — even with last year (1.3, 1.9M), and down 24% in both measures compared to 2011 (1.7, 2.4M).
NBC’s golf coverage had the highest median age (61 on Saturday, 60 on Sunday) of any sports programs on broadcast last weekend.
