The Penguins set a ratings record on Root Sports Sunday. In other news, the Miami Heat streak drew solid numbers on ESPN Monday, and NBA TV’s “Fan Night” telecasts are up, though barely, from last year.
Pens Set Record
- Sunday’s Flyers/Penguins NHL regular season game drew a 16.5 rating on Root Sports in the Pittsburgh market, the highest rating ever for a regular season Penguins game on the network. The previous high was a 15.9 for Maple Leafs/Penguins in 2000, Mario Lemieux‘s first game back from retirement. (Root Sports)
Heat/Magic Solid For ESPN
- ESPN earned 1.9 million viewers for the Heat/Magic NBA regular season game Monday night, Miami’s 27th consecutive victory. The game, which ESPN picked up Friday night, was subject to blackouts in both Miami and Orlando. Even without the local markets, Heat/Magic earned the fifth-largest NBA audience on ESPN since the All-Star break. (Mon. numbers from The Futon Critic)
Extremely Slight Increase For “Fan Night”
- NBA TV has averaged 468,000 viewers for 19 “Fan Night” NBA regular season telecasts this season, up 3% from last year’s full-season average (455K), and up 17% from the full-season average in the 2010-11 season (401K). (Turner Sports via The Futon Critic)
