For once, Sunday night was football night.
NBC drew the highest NFL rating of the weekend, marking only the second time this season that the network has taken the top spot among NFL rightsholders.
Sunday Night Football, featuring the Cowboys’ win over the Giants, drew a 15.4 overnight on NBC, up 39% from an 11.1 for Washington/Giants last year. The 15.4 is the highest overnight of the season for a Sunday Night Football telecast, and the second highest ever for SNF on NBC.
Giants/Cowboys finished barely ahead of the late national game on CBS. Steelers/Ravens drew a 15.3 overnight rating on CBS Sunday, down 5% from a 16.1 for Cowboys/Eagles on FOX last year. The 15.3 is tied for the ninth-best overnight of the season, and is the third best overnight for a game on CBS.
The early game on CBS was also down from last year; regional coverage drew a 10.2/21 from 1-4:15 PM Sunday, down 27% from a 13.9 for coverage in the same timeslot last year, when the network aired only one game.
FOX drew a 10.8/22 for its lone NFL telecast on Sunday, up 13% from a 9.6 for coverage in the same timeslot last year, when the network aired a doubleheader.
Overall, NFL telecasts across NBC, FOX and CBS averaged a 12.92 overnight rating on Sunday, up 2% from a 12.68 on Week 15 last year.
