Ratings inched up for Sprint Cup action from Richmond last week, but remained among the lowest ever for NASCAR on FOX.
Last Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Toyota Owners 400 from Richmond (VA) earned a 3.7 final rating and 6.1 million viewers on FOX, up a tick in ratings and 3% in viewership from last year (3.6, 5.9M), and flat and down 1%, respectively, from 2011 (3.7, 6.1M).
The 3.7 rating is tied as the second-lowest ever for a NASCAR Sprint Cup race on FOX. The record low for the Sprint Cup on FOX is a 3.6 rating, set by last year’s Richmond race and the 2009 Subway Fresh Fit 500 from Phoenix.
The 3.7 is also tied as the second-lowest for the spring Richmond race since 2006, the last year it aired on cable (3.4).
Despite the relatively low numbers, the Richmond race ranked as the most-viewed sporting event of the weekend on broadcast, and the second-highest rated. In addition, the race was the thrd of the last five to have an increase (however slight) over last year.
