Overnight ratings for Game 3 of the NBA Finals were the lowest since the last time the Spurs played in the event.
Game 3 of the Heat/Spurs NBA Finals drew a 10.0 overnight rating on ABC Tuesday night, down 4% from Thunder/Heat Game 3 last year (10.4), and down 10% from Heat/Mavericks Game 3 in 2011 (11.1).
The 10.0 overnight is the lowest for Game 3 of the NBA Finals since Spurs/Cavaliers in 2007 (7.8), and is the lowest for any NBA Finals game since Lakers/Magic Game 5 in 2009 (9.4).
Of course, it should be pointed out that Tuesday’s overnight is much closer to the previous years than to the record-low levels of 2007. Lakers/Magic Game 3 in 2009, for example, was only slightly higher at a 10.1 overnight.
Tuesday’s overnight still ranks as the highest for a Game 3 involving the Spurs since Spurs/Knicks in 1999 (12.4).
Game 3 drew a 28.4 rating in Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, down 4% from Thunder/Heat last year (29.6), and down 12% from Heat/Mavericks in 2011 (32.3).
In San Antonio, the game drew a series-high 37.5 — still down 13% from Spurs/Cavaliers Game 3 in 2007 (43.3). Game 3 ratings for Spurs/Pistons in 2005 were not available.
