Doug Collins‘ inevitable return to television will reportedly take place on ESPN instead of Turner Sports.
The Big Lead reported Friday that Collins is in talks to join ESPN as an analyst on the network’s “NBA Countdown” studio show. Collins would replace Michael Wilbon, whose role on the show will be “diminished” (TBL, 9/6).
Collins has primarily worked as a game analyst throughout his career, most recently on NBC’s coverage of last year’s Olympics. He last worked NBA games with Turner Sports from 2003-10, and previously served as the lead analyst for the NBA on NBC from 1998-01.
According to the report, Collins would continue to work occasional game telecasts in his role on ESPN, but his primary duties would be in the studio.
ESPN would be the third landing spot for Collins, whose broadcasting career has been frequently interrupted by ill-fated coaching gigs. He left Turner Sports for the Pistons in 1995, left NBC for the Wizards in 2001, and then left Turner for the Sixers in 2010.
