For the second straight week, ESPN had a modest increase for NASCAR Sprint Cup coverage — but the numbers remained low historically.
Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup AAA 400 from Dover earned a 2.4 U.S. rating and 4.0 million viewers on ESPN, up 9% in ratings and 11% in viewership from last year (2.2, 3.6M), but down 8% and 3%, respectively, from 2011 (2.6, 4.1M).
The race ranks as the second straight Sprint Cup telecast to have an increase over last year — but keep in mind last year’s comparable races were the two lowest rated Chase For the Cup telecasts ever.
Overall, the 2.4 rating is tied as the second-lowest for the AAA 400 since at least 2000 (ratings prior to 2001 were not available).
ESPN has now aired the seventeen lowest rated Chase For the Cup telecasts (excludes rainouts).
