- Larry Miller: The longtime Utah Jazz owner died of compilations due to diabetes on Friday. Miller, who had experienced serious health issues in recent years, including the amputation of his legs and a heart attack, had owned the Jazz since 1985.
- Emmitt Smith: The ESPN NFL analyst will not have his contract renewed by the network. Smith, who joined ESPN in 2007 as a prominent member of its NFL studio team, had been phased out in recent months. Prior to the start of last season, he was removed from Sunday NFL Countdown, and he was absent during ESPN’s coverage of Super Bowl XLIII.
- Bill Walton: For the second consecutive season, the ESPN NBA analyst is on the disabled list. Walton, who suffered through back problems that sidelined him from NBA studio coverage for most of last season, is out indefinitely due to back surgery.
