Major League Baseball continues to endure possibly the worst first week of any pro sports league in recent memory.
Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Mark Fidrych was found dead on Monday after an apparent accident. He was 54.
Fidrych, the 1981 AL Rookie of the Year, was found underneath his pick-up truck mid-Monday afternoon. Officials say “[h]e appeared to be working on the truck.”
Fidrych’s death comes on the same day that Phillies play-by-play voice Harry Kalas died prior to a Phillies/Nationals game, and comes less than a week after Angels’ pitcher Nick Adenhart died in a car crash.
In a third sports-related death on Monday, former Arizona State head football coach Bruce Snyder passed away at age 69, following a battle with cancer.
