TNT drew solid numbers for its coverage of the NBA Playoffs on Sunday.
An NBA Playoff tripleheader featuring 76ers/Magic, Heat/Hawks and Hornets/Nuggets averaged a 2.0 U.S. rating on TNT Sunday, up 11% from a 1.8 for three games on the comparable date last year. The 2.0 is TNT’s highest average on the opening weekend of the NBA Playoffs since at least 2001.
The early game, the 76ers’ upset victory over the Magic, drew a 1.8 U.S. rating from 5:39-8:19 PM Sunday, down 10% from a 2.0 for 76ers/Pistons in a similar timeslot last year. Compared to the early game last year, a 12:30 PM Raptors/Magic tilt, the 1.8 rating was up 33%.
Meanwhile, the Hawks’ blowout win over Miami drew a 2.2 U.S. rating from 8:19-10:44 PM, even with the Hawks/Celtics game in a similar timeslot last year. Compared to TNT’s second game last year, a 6:00 PM 76ers/Pistons game, the 2.2 was up 10%.
The nightcap, the Nuggets’ blowout of the Hornets, drew a 2.0 U.S. rating from 10:44 PM-1:25 AM. There was no game in the comparable timeslot last year. Compared to TNT’s third game last year, the 2.0 was down 9% from a 2.2 for an 8:30 PM Hawks/Celtics game.
