- David Poole: The longtime NASCAR reporter passed away on Tuesday at the age of 50. Poole worked for the Charlotte Observer for the past 13 years and also hosted a NASCAR-related radio show. NASCAR will hold a moment of silence in honor of Poole prior to this Saturday’s race.
- Matt Vasgersian: The MLB Network anchor made an on-air apology for an ill-timed joke. On Monday night, while Rockies’ outfielder Brad Hawpe was being carried off the field on a stretcher following a serious injury, Vasgersian joked that one of the EMTs looked like Donovan McNabb. In his apology, Vasgersian noted “how insensitive it must have sounded, at that moment, to try to inject levity.”
- ‘Hot’ Rod Hundley: The longtime Utah Jazz announcer called his last game on Monday. Hundley, who served as the play-by-play voice of the Jazz since the team’s inaugural season in 1974, announced last week that he would retire at the end of the season. When the Jazz were eliminated by the Lakers on Monday night, Hundley was given a standing ovation by Laker fans.
