The first game of the Sidney Crosby/Alex Ovechkin battle gave NBC a boost in the ratings on Saturday.
The Capitals’ Game 1 win over the Penguins drew a 1.4/4 overnight rating on NBC Saturday afternoon, up 40% from a 1.0/2 for last year’s comparable Avalanche/Red Wings Game 2, and the second-highest overnight rating of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Despite the big boost in ratings, the 1.4 for Capitals/Penguins is 18% below the 1.7 Penguins/Flyers Game 3 drew on NBC two weeks ago.
