Though no match for last year’s much-hyped Alabama/Texas A&M match-up, the SEC on CBS crushed its competition during week three of the college football season.
The Georgia/South Carolina college football game drew a 4.2 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, down 53% from Alabama/Texas A&M last year (9.0) but up 40% from Alabama/Arkansas in 2012 (3.0). The start of the game was postponed 90 minutes due to rain, pushing the finish into primetime.
Though down big from last year, the 4.2 overnight is the second-highest for the season debut of the SEC on CBS in five years — since Florida/Tennessee drew a 4.8 overnight in 2009.
Georgia/South Carolina was easily the top college football game of week three. No other game came even close, with ABC’s Saturday Night Football ranking a very distant second (2.2).
