ESPN got a rare increase in overnight ratings for Monday Night Football.
The Week 5 Seahawks/Washington Monday Night Football game drew a 9.0 overnight rating on ESPN, up 5% from Jets/Falcons last year (8.6) and down 10% from Jets/Texans in 2012 (10.0). The game is only the second of the season on ESPN to have an increase in overnights* (six telecasts).
The 9.0 is the second-lowest overnight of the season on ESPN, ahead of only the Chargers/Cardinals late window in Week 1 (7.8). Interestingly, that same game was the only other telecast this season to have an increase in overnights.
Locally, ESPN’s telecast drew a 20.7 rating in Seattle and a 14.0 in Washington, DC. The game was simulcast on local affiliates in both markets, earning a 24.5 on Seattle independent affiliate KONG and a 9.4 on Washington independent affiliate WDCA.
* Keep in mind that twice has this season ESPN had a decline in overnights only to see an increase in the final ratings.
