A marquee matchup last year, the latest meeting between Alabama and Texas A&M was a weak draw for CBS.
Last Saturday’s Texas A&M/Alabama college football game drew a 2.8 final rating and 4.2 million viewers on CBS, down a third in ratings and 38% in viewership from Auburn/Texas A&M last year (4.2, 6.7M) and down 9% and 14%, respectively, from Florida/South Carolina in 2012 (3.1, 4.9M).
Ratings and viewership were down substantially from previous games between the teams. The Aggies’ upset of Alabama in 2012 drew a 6.1 and 9.6 million, and Alabama’s win in last year’s rematch drew an 8.5 and 13.6 million. Alabama won this year’s game 59-0.
Saturday’s game ranks as the second-least viewed of the season on CBS, ahead of only the Noon ET Georgia/Missouri game a week before (3.0M). The 2.8 rating is the third-lowest, ahead of Georgia/Missouri (2.0) and Arkansas/Texas A&M in September (2.7).
Despite the lower numbers, Texas A&M/Alabama was the second-biggest college football draw of the week. ABC’s Notre Dame/Florida State game took the top spot with a dramatically higher 7.9 and 13.3 million.
