During last night’s broadcast, the Monday Night Football crew were chatting about Giants running back Tiki Barber’s decision to retire after this season to pursue a career in broadcasting. Tony Kornheiser made the comment that, if Barber just gave ESPN the word, he could take Tony’s place in the booth as soon as next week.
Tony Kornheiser has built a personality partly based on self-deprecation. In other words, his comment was more than likely in jest. However, considering his sensitivity to criticisms about his performance on Monday Night Football, his own criticism of himself for his performance, and his comment to the New York Post recently that it wouldn’t be a shock if he did not return for a second season, it is growing ever more likely that this experiment will end as a one-and-done mistake.
