Another near-upset of the defending national champions helped ABC top the charts on a slow college football Saturday.
Regional college football action featuring Boston College/Florida State in 78% of markets drew a 3.6 overnight rating on ABC, up 24% from regional action last year (2.9), and the top telecast of the week. The telecast marked just the fourth time all season that a non-SEC game has at least tied the week’s top overnight.
The 3:30 PM ET window has tied or earned the week’s top overnight in ten of 13 weeks this season. The only exceptions were week eleven (Alabama/LSU in primetime), week eight (Notre Dame/FSU in primetime), and week three (Georgia/South Carolina, which was pushed from 3:30 to 5 PM due to weather delays).
Head-to-head, FSU’s comeback victory nearly doubled the SEC on CBS (1.9) and finished comfortably ahead of Louisville/Notre Dame on NBC (2.2).
ABC also earned the week’s second-best overnight, scoring a 3.3 for the USC/UCLA Saturday Night Football game — down 18% from Baylor/Oklahoma State last year (4.0).
