Overnight ratings increased slightly, but remained low, for the MLS Cup. In other news, NBC’s EPL overnights have remained strikingly consistent this year, and the Mountain West Championship slipped on CBS.
MLS Cup Overnight Up Slightly
- Sunday’s Revolution/Galaxy MLS Cup earned a 0.6 overnight rating on ESPN, up a tick from Real Salt Lake/Sporting Kansas City last year (0.5), but down a tick from Dynamo/Galaxy in 2012 (0.7). The 0.6 is the third-lowest overnight ever for the MLS Cup on ESPN/ESPN2. Keep in mind the game aired directly opposite NFL games on CBS and FOX. (ShowBuzz Daily, twitter.com/MacN_ESPN)
Another 0.7 Overnight For EPL on NBC
- The Manchester City/Everton English Premier League match drew a 0.7 overnight rating on NBC Saturday afternoon, even with Sunderland/Chelsea the previous week. NBC did not air a match on the comparable day last year. Seven of NBC’s 12 EPL telecasts this season have had a 0.7 overnight. (via Sports Business Daily)
Slight Drop For MWC Championship Game
- The Boise State/Fresno State Mountain West Championship Game drew a 0.9 overnight rating on CBS Saturday night, down a tick from last year’s inaugural Fresno State/Utah State game (1.0). Just like last year, the game began at 10 PM ET — by far the latest start time for a college football game on broadcast this season. (via Sports Business Daily)
