The combination of Notre Dame, the SEC and an exciting finish boosted the Music City Bowl to a multi-year high.
The Notre Dame/LSU Music City Bowl drew 5.3 million viewers on ESPN Tuesday afternoon, up 70% from Mississippi/Georgia Tech last year (2.0, 3.1M) and up 172% from Vanderbilt/N.C. State in 2012 (2.0M). Ratings for the game were not immediately available.
Notre Dame’s last-second win ranks as the most-watched Music City Bowl since North Carolina/Tennessee in 2010 (7.1M) and the second-most watched since at least 2006.
Excluding the BCS National Championship Game, the Music City Bowl was the most-watched bowl game to involve Notre Dame since the 2007 Sugar Bowl — also against LSU (14.4M). Last year’s Notre Dame bowl game, the Pinstripe Bowl against Rutgers, drew 4.8 million.
