A battle of top 25 teams lifted the Belk Bowl to one of the largest audiences of the bowl season.
The Georgia/Louisville Belk Bowl drew 6.4 million viewers on ESPN Tuesday night, up 35% from North Carolina/Cincinnati last year (4.8M) and up 66% from Cincinnati/Duke in 2012 (3.9M). Ratings were not immediately available.
The Bulldogs’ win ranks as the most-watched Belk Bowl since at least 2006, topping the previous mark of 6.1 million for Pittsburgh/North Carolina in 2009. Since hitting a low of 2.9 million in 2010, viewership for the game has increased every season.
Entering the New Year’s Six, the Belk Bowl was the second-most watched game of the bowl season on ESPN. Only the USC/Nebraska Holiday Bowl earned a larger audience (6.8M).
