The first race of the IndyCar season has been canceled. In other news, the NHL has slated another Canadian team for the Winter Classic, and NBC’s NASCAR races will have varied start times this year.
IndyCar’s Brazil Opener Canceled
- The March 8 IndyCar Series race from Brazil, which was to serve as the season opener, has been canceled. The race was scheduled to air on NBCSN. As a result of the sudden cancellation, the season will now begin on March 29 at St. Petersburg on ABC. (Indy Star)
Another Canadian Team in Winter Classic
- Next year’s NHL Winter Classic will feature the Canadiens against the Bruins, marking just the second time that a Canadian team has played in the league’s marquee outdoor game. The Maple Leafs played the Red Wings two years ago in a game that tied the highest regular season NHL rating since 1975. Next year’s game is scheduled to take place from Gillette Field in Foxborough. Varied Start Times For NASCAR on NBC
- In a shift away from the consistent start times established in 2010, NASCAR races on NBC Sports will start at ten different times this season. The most common will be 2:30 PM ET (four races) with three each starting at 2:00 and 7:30. By contrast, all-but-two races on FOX will begin at 1:00, 3:30 or 7:30 PM.
