The NFL is looking into streaming a game over-the-top next season. In other news, NBC will air the America’s Cup again in 2017 and TNT and LeBron James‘ production company are partnering on an NBA fashion show.
NFL Considering Over-the-Top Broadcast Next Season
- The NFL is exploring talks with digital companies such as Google or Yahoo! to stream a live regular season game ‘over-the-top’ (i.e., available online without a cable subscription) next season, Sports Business Journal reported Monday. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said last month that the league was “aggressively pursuing” an over-the-top broadcast that would reach “millions of homes that do not have traditional television service” (CNN, 1/30). According to Monday’s report, the league is looking at the October 25 Bills/Jaguars game from London as a potential candidate. (Sports Business Journal)
NBC to Air America’s Cup Again
- NBC Sports announced Monday that it has acquired rights to the next America’s Cup in 2017, as well as the run-up events over the next two years. The 2017 event will mark the second straight America’s Cup on the NBC Sports networks, a turnaround for an event that was confined to ESPN3.com as recently as 2010. (NBC Sports Group Press Box)
