The NBA All-Star Celebrity game was the least-watched in seven years. In other news, the NBA Rising Stars Challenge also hit a multi-year viewership low, and the NBA All-Star Style fashion show was no match for last year’s comparable telecast.
NBA Celebrity Game Hits Seven-Year Low
- The NBA All-Star Celebrity Game drew 1.8 million viewers on ESPN Friday night, down 27% from last year (2.5M), down 21% from 2013 (2.3M), and the smallest audience for the game since 2008 (1.6M). The six-year low snapped a five-year streak in which the Celebrity Game topped two million viewers each year.
Rising Stars Challenge Lowest Since At Least 2007
- TNT drew 1.6 million viewers for Friday’s NBA Rising Stars Challenge, down 12% from last year (1.8M), down 18% from 2013 (1.9M), and the least-watched edition of the event since at least 2007. Viewership for the Rising Stars Challenge (previously the Rookie-Sophomore Game) has now declined each year since the game delivered a record 2.7 million in 2012.
NBA Fashion Show No Match For TNT Studio Sprint
- The NBA All-Star Style fashion show earned a 1.2 million viewers on TNT Saturday evening, down 44% from last year’s NBA All-Star Challenge — a race between TNT’s NBA studio team (2.1M). Last year’s telecast aired in a slightly later timeslot (7 PM ET as opposed to 6:30 PM) and was only a half-hour long.
