The two biggest stars in golf helped lift the ratings for The Tour Championship.
Sunday’s final round of The Tour Championship, the final event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, drew a 3.3 overnight rating on NBC — up 83% from a 1.8 last year, and even with ’07. Phil Mickelson won the event, while second-place finisher Tiger Woods clinched the FedEx Cup.
The 3.3 overnight is tied as the highest for the final round of The Tour Championship since ’00.
This marks the 8th straight PGA Tour event to have at least a 50% increase in overnight ratings for final round coverage, dating back to the Buick Open in early August.
Final round coverage of the four FedEx Cup Playoff events averaged a 3.0 overnight rating on CBS and NBC, up 88% from a 1.6 last year, but down 6% from a 3.2 in ’07.
