Could a Comcast/NBC deal come before November?
CNBC reports that Comcast “hopes to reach an agreement” with NBC Universal parent company General Electric in “the next two to three weeks.” The cable giant wants to buy a 51% stake in NBC Universal, with General Electric retaining the remaining 49%.
Currently, GE has an 80% stake in NBC Universal, while French corporation Vivendi owns a 20% stake.
As part of the deal, NBC Universal “would be spun off into a new company” that would merge with Comcast’s entertainment assets — including Versus, The Golf Channel and several RSNs.
