The NFL was the cherry on top of a strong week of ratings for sporting events on FOX.
Last Sunday’s NFL doubleheader on FOX averaged a 14.1/29 rating and 23.5 million viewers, up 37% and 42%, respectively, from last year’s Week 7 doubleheader on CBS (10.3, 16.5 million). The 23.5 million viewers is the most ever for an NFL doubleheader on FOX, topping the previous high of 22.9 million set in November ’95.
In addition to the viewership record, the 14.1 rating for last week’s doubleheader is third-best ever for the NFL on FOX.
In particular, last week’s national game (featuring Falcons/Cowboys) drew a 16.8/32 rating and 28.4 million viewers, up 18% and 22%, respectively, from Colts/Packers on CBS last year (14.2/29, 23.9 million). The 28.4 million viewers is the most for any NFL regular season telecast on FOX since 1996.
FOX also drew strong numbers for the first game of its doubleheader, as coverage featuring Vikings/Steelers drew an 11.4/25 rating and 18.5 million viewers — up 78% and 88%, respectively, from comparable coverage on CBS last year (6.4, 9.8 mil).
Through Week 7, FOX is averaging an 11.4/24 rating and 18.8 million viewers for NFL coverage, up 14% and 18%, respectively, from a 10.0/21 and 15.9 million last year, and the best start ever for the NFL on FOX.
