The momentum from the Home Run Derby did not carry into the MLB All-Star Game, at least in the metered markets.
The 2015 MLB All-Star Game drew a 7.8 overnight rating on FOX Tuesday night, down 3% from last year (8.0), down 4% from 2013 (8.1), and the lowest overnight ever for the event. The previous low was a 7.9 in 2011. The past six editions of the game have been either the lowest or second-lowest rated in the metered markets.
As noted by Sports Business Daily writer Austin Karp, it is quite possible that the game will avoid a record-low in the final tally. Last year’s game tied the second-lowest overnight in All-Star history, but bounced back somewhat to rank as the fourth-lowest rated in the finals.
As usual, low numbers for the MLB All-Star Game still outclassed the other pro sports exhibitions. The NFL Pro Bowl had a 5.6 overnight on ESPN, the NBA All-Star Game scored a 5.5 on TNT and TBS, and the NHL All-Star Game brought up the rear with a 0.9 on NBCSN.
