Hey Paulsen, Astros–Rays Game 6 will be needed for tomorrow due to the Astros win thanks to their superstar, Carlos Correa suffocating the Rays in the 9th inning with a Solo Home Run, and just a heads up that if there is only one game left for this Saturday, then that game will be at 7 pm et on either TBS or FS1!
2020 has been indescribable so many times. It’s been very odd on an even numerical year and I’m going to be odd on this post by getting to the point of what FOX wants its World Series to be and then talk about everything else. FOX wants the Yankees in the World Series. They could careless about their opponent. What is great however is that the Astros is a participant, but only if they face the Dodgers could that be a great alternate hope for FOX. Prior to the outbreak, it looked like the Astros were primed to become a team villain. I’m talking on the level of Bad Boys Pistons, Laettner’s Duke, 2010-11 Heat, and 2014 Florida St football. It’s hard to recall a specific Yankees team that was hated so much as what was transpired to be for the 2020 Houston Astros team. That was going to be an all year affair whereas the Yankees haters don’t want them to win a World Series or dominate the MLB over a period of time. COVID erased all of that and let the Astros off the hook. So having the Yankees attempt to win their first WS in 11 years could be the best storyline to put out there.
If it’s the Dodgers, the Dodgers will bring their WS drought storyline and also overcoming the 2017 WS (given what happened) storyline. If it’s the Braves, at least they’re a familiar team to be reckoned in America, especially from the older audiences. Considering how bad the Hawks is and how the Falcons is no longer SB contenders, citizens from Atlanta and the state of Georgia (along with Mississippi, Alabama, North Florida, Tennessee, and the Carolinas) will ride behind the Bravos. If it’s the Padres, the MLB could highly market Fernando Tatis and hope he can be their Mahomes, Luka, and/or Zion going forward. If it’s the Marlins their addition storyline is… Jeter has to root against the Yankees? Okay, the Marlins can only be a draw if they compete, but not dominate. But the Yankees themselves is enough to lead headlines in the World Series regardless the opponent.
I said on another post that having a 16 team postseason is enough for this season given the circumstance. I said on another post that I hope the MLB doesn’t make the 16 team postseason permanent. I mentioned how losing the Cubs is devastating for MLB and FOX Sports and that is because of the 16 team postseason because in any other year they’re facing the Braves in the NLDS. Focused on 2020 alone, the MLB has to be very mad that the Phillies, Angels, Nats, and/or the Mets didn’t make it. MLB needs as much headlines/storylines they could get. Mike Trout in the postseason would bring attention just like Ovechkin from the Capitals brought so a high number of viewers when he was in pursuit of his 1st Stanley Cup. Bryce Harper would have attention (possibly more given how his old team won the WS after he departed). Could the Nats win back2back? MLB missed out on that and missed out having a stronger postseason than what is presented.
Moving forward, baseball has a tough decision to make. Let me start off with universal DH. I believe they should not have universal DH. I personally believe that we will see more 2-way baseball players in terms of doing both batting and pitching. I want those players to still play a position if they’re batting and also bat while pitch assuming they play in the NL ballpark. I don’t want a 2-way to only pitch or to only hit (and possibly not field) when they play. If baseball wants to grow they will need different leagues playing or not playing a DH. They also need to welcome 2-way players to do both in certain amount of games. It also fun figuring out decisions on whether to keep a pitcher in or find a pinch hitter when it comes to NL ball games later in the ball game. Hopefully universal DH is not permament.
Runner on second at start of extra innings should be permanent for only regular season. The NHL has it where if the game is still tied after 1st OT they do a shootout. I love it on the NHL, because there will be a winner and loser and the time shouldn’t be a factor. In the MLB that would help games end in the 10th which saves times for viewers and also pitching arms. More importantly, it will keep the viewers engaged. In the postseason games, what is at stake is already engaging. That is where I believe it should be authentic to have the bases cleared in postseason extra innings game. I know Game 1 Reds/Braves doesn’t help my case, but had those teams played in the NLDS, I promise that wouldn’t of been an issue especially if the game had a full capacity crowd.
7th inning Double-Headers should be a no go going forward. Fans pay tickets to watch a 9-inning, +/- 3 hour game. They don’t want to see a game made up in 7-innings or become a 7-inning game because it’s now part of a Double-header. I know this goes on in Minor League, but they’re not the Major League. I paid to see a batter bat for 4-5 plate appearances. Not 3, maybe 4. On top of that, in a 162 game regular season there’s plenty of time to rest and have games off unlike the RS we’re coming off of.
Final point, I am curious on how the pace of play will look in the real 2020 postseason. For the most part I haven’t seen much changes from the rules they implemented to help the pace of play in 2020 or prior. If you’re baseball, I believe you might have to live with that, but only hope there’s more action/ball in play going on in the 3-hour period in which for the most it is. Bottomline, they should move on pace of play and even lowering tanking and focus on advancing their fan base and bettering their media coverage.

TBS coverage of the NLCS is truly horrible. Let’s start with the low tech live box score image they put in the upper corner of the tv screen: name of the batter? nope. but hey, the pitcher name stays up for every at bat, apparently it’s not a team sport anymore. On deck? nope. Pitch speed? nope. Oh, oh wait– they pan the camera away and place the tiniest possible unreadable number image on top of the catchers uniform every once in awhile, does that count–not in my book. The commentators “calling the game” spend 90% of their time talking about anything and everything except the game. They aren’t even dialing it in. I finally shut off the TBS audio and put on the live feed from satellite radio. Ahhh–much better.

Boy baseball really knows what there doing. You have to check the internet to find out what channel your team is on. I was lucky enough to be at Game 3 Rays-Astros and being in Florida, I had to use the cable guide and go up channel by channel to find Game 4. After 4, I was under the impression Game 5 would be the next day. Wrong again, so on Thursday night I will be watching Giants-Patriots and after the game,I will use the channel guide to find AL Game 5 and hope there still playing so
I can catch the end. Ridiculous!

Why is MLB allowing FOX to broadcast all the World Series when most of the people who live out of the big markets have lost access to ANY Fox channel?
becuse fox has a contract with mlb untill 2028 so until then nothing can be done!

Ahh. It’s that Time of the year. But before I go into my thoughts on the MLB Postseason, let me first say the MLB should be ashamed of themselves in regards to the American League! 3 Teams finished over 100 wins and another 3 teams lost over 100 games. On top of that the 5 teams representing AL in the postseason plus the Indians were the only teams contending from start to finish. Now I know the BoSox put it on themselves to miss out, but I’m speaking on other teams that showed they was levels away from teams that’s in the postseason. That is sad. National League, on the other hand I can give them credit. They had some great competition and also better team/managerial efforts as well.
With all that being said, it will be hard to tune in the LDS series and expect a possible upset to occur. This is where FOX Sports and TBS will miss the Cubs, BoSox, Mets, Phillies, and Angels due to either a large market factor, team prestige, and/or having a Household name superstar that casuals would know and be familiar with. However, those stations would have nothing to worry about if the 4 best teams in baseball in the Braves, Yankees, Astros, and Dodgers ALL make it to the LCS round. I believe FOX dream World Series is Yankees/Dodgers.
One thing I noticed from FOX Sports though is every since the FS1 deal kicked in is how well they have advanced their coverage of the MLB. Add that with the growth of College Football and they have themselves an advantage to reach out to multiple audiences to tune into the postseason something they lacked post-2004. I believe whatever match-up they have they’ll be content.
TBS, on the other hand, I believe it will be great that Ernie Johnson will be returning to the postseason. I’m not sure if he’s still #2, but he was #1 a couple of years ago and let Brian Anderson take over the NLCS because the NBA opening week conflicting with the NLCS. That won’t be an issue this year since the World Series begins on October 22nd the same day the Toronto Raptors will raise their Championship banner on TNT. It will be similar to the 2016 postseason when he called the ALCS, but was able to start the NBA season which was held on the same day the World Series started on FOX. We shall see. If I have to predict, I believe Anderson would call the NLCS as it would be the sign of EJ passing the torch. I hope I’m wrong because I’m of the very small minority that enjoys hearing EJ call baseball games over Anderson.
I am trying to find out when the last MLB non-world series game reached at least 10 million in viewership? Not sure if it happened this decade? Last one I can think of is game 7 of ALCS TB-Boston in 2008. Were there any after that?
2010 — final three games of LCS topped 10M mark.
Very shocked that 3 games had over 10 million in 2010. I guess Giants were kind of a new team and Philly had a strong market. Will be interesting to see if any of the LCS games can reach 10 million. Especially if we get a game 7 on Fox.

The audio had the crowd level so low it was like watch a old documentary on poor tape. The announcers would get excited and scream when a exciting play happen but cutting out the crowd made it so dull and painful to watch . I am a big National League fan so I hoping for the best !!

That why I don’t watch tbs because for a couple of reasons
1. I don’t own cable or satellite services at my home
2. It over laps nfl coverage
There are many stories in the media about the increasing number of “cord-cutters” or “cord nevers” (people who have stopped subscribing to cable/satellite TV, or who never had it in the first place). My family falls into that category. We watch TV via streaming services like Amazon Video and YouTube, and we have an antenna for local channels. We haven’t subscribed to channels like TBS and ESPN since around 2008.
I wish MLB would get with the times and move the playoffs away from these dinosaur cable TV networks. But I guess they care about the big bucks more than they care about the number of fans who can see the playoffs.

I’ve noticed it says FS1 or Fox for ALCS Game 7. That should be Fox only, as they are required to broadcast ALCS game 7 in 2019 if it happens on the broadcast network.

I’ve not seen anything to that effect, and as we all know, anyone can edit Wikipedia for any reason and add anything they want. Maybe its true, but I see no reason to believe that the LCS situation will be any different this year than it has been in the past. (Plus, there is no way that FOX would air *any* LCS Game 7, given that Turner owns rights to one of the two series and would not just give up its highest rated game).

In a day and age when more people are dropping cable and satellite baseball viewership is going to continue to die until they out their games on network television.
Ron Darling and Brian Anderson could at least pronounce the Red Sox Pitching Coach’s name correctly. It’s LeVangie NOT, as they keep saying, Le Vangell. They’re paid handsomely to speak. Is it too much to ask them to get the names right?
Well it’s that time of the year! October what a nice month it is especially with MLB Postseason (if you’re a big sports fan). Couple of housecleaning to let out, TBS has to be sad that BoSox dominated the RS and finished number 1. That means that if Yankees win WC game then the NYY/BOS series is an ALDS not an ALCS something they probably had a vision for a year ago. It’s tough because prior to the 1 game WC game MLB installed in 2012, NYY would’ve faced Houston instead.
For FS1, this will be a tough year because the NL have the Cubs who won the WS a couple of years ago and with the Dodgers coming off a NL Pennant season, it’s tough to sell a storyline on the NL side of the postseason. Rockies, Braves, and Brewers are new bloods with no young player that carries a name like Bryce Harper of yesterday and Aaron Judge of today. Along that there’s no veteran presence that has a Nationwide starpower that would garner in extra viewers and interest. With that FS1 has to root for the Cubs and Rockies to win the Tiebreaker and for the Dodgers to win the Wildcard. I believe having an ATL/LA series will bring in interest because of the big market and people could learn who the Braves are. Meanwhile if CHC/COL series happen, we’re talking plenty of runs scored in those with some good pitching moments. I’m talking about an all-around series. FS1 has to hope for that to happen.
Housecleaning took up a lot of my points on how I see this postseason going. Bottomline, if I’m the MLB and FOX it’s tough that the Nats are not in the postseason. TBS could’ve gained something had the Angels made the postseason as well. I see plenty of parity in the MLB, it’s just a tough sell to the audience when a starpower-led team are either injured or losing. With that said, FOX’ dream World Series is the Yankees/Cubs. I was very close to saying Astros/Cubs because of the last 2 WS champs, but the Yankees would really help both FOX and MLB playing in the Fall Classic first time in 9 years and also a new nucleus of players would help people want to tune in to see some theatrics baseball.

So…young guys like Christian Yelich (the assumed NL MVP who barely missed winning the Triple Crown) and Josh Hader (most feared reliever in baseball) aren’t big enough names? I’m not even a Brewers fan nor do I live in the Midwest and I find your statement to be incredibly shortsighted.
And MLB doesn’t need Yankees/Cubs or Astros/Cubs in the World Series to see some “theatrics baseball.” Perhaps you should have watched the NL Central Division Tiebreaker game yesterday afternoon…one of the most entertaining baseball games of the season.
Of course MLB and FOX want big markets to reign the day and be there at the end, so that their ratings skyrocket. No one questions that. And I understand that this is a website dedicated to the media side of the game and not the actual game itself. But your statements seem to imply that this is the only way that the playoffs would be amusing, and that’s simply not accurate (esp. if you are an actual fan of the game).
When I speak about the postseason and the station that partners with the MLB, I am speaking about maximum and high peak ratings possible in which by recent data has been influenced by well known names/franchises and storylines. I know that the Rockies and Brewers have excellent young talent, it’s just that the market and prestige is no where near New York, Chicago, and LA. Viewers are not ready and prepared for them to be in bright lights. Atlanta at least have some flavor that can be built now than the 2 other franchises because of market size and how value they are in the history of the Majors. By no mean am I rooting for any team. I am a Detroit Tigers fan and we’re far from postseason contention. I’m just speaking on what I believe the station wish had happened and what they want to happen
LAD/NYY would be great for FOX, but again this is what I believe is the maximum hope for the stations. But again Im rooting for no one. My team is gone. I know not many people care for the Tigers and they gave FOX poor ratings in 2006 and 2012 WS yet I wish they could play in the World Series. I’ll enjoy the postseason unless the Cleveland Indians win 11 games this postseason then I’ll be very salty.

From what I read, it would be two of the first four games + Game 7. Would not be a smart decision to air MLB leading into TNF, given how long MLB games can run. Risk of preemption would be high.
I will be in Europe during the world series. If I have the Fox Sports Go app, will I be able to watch the full replay of the game the next day? Do they archive them if I do some binge watching??
From what I can tell, FS GO now archives all events. Was not always the case.
TBS broadcasters were awful this postseason! Where did they think they were? A slumber party? A reunion at the senior center? They told me more about PAST games than the one going on in front of them!!! HALF the batters were never even announced! They kept referencing Harry Caray….well at least Harry interrupted HIS stories to tell us what was happening in the GAME!
It was enough having to listen to commentators that were obviously rooting for the opponent, but then to have them do such an awful job of reporting the action made it horrible!
I don’t have cable TV all games should be on free broadcast stations . I guess only the rich are allowed to see America’s game.
I love watching baseball since I was a kid and I love playing it and I used to love the fact that we were able to watch our sports on TV it’s just ridiculous money is the root of all evil it’s been said over and over again and no one seems to do anything about it

If there is a game 7 between Yankees-Astros on Saturday night, is there any chance Fox would put this game on broadcast instead of FS1? Considering the college football game they have scheduled is a blowout between TCU and KU, wouldn’t it be a better option for Fox to put game 7 on broadcast and move the football game to FS1?

Those games were listed as airing on FOX *or* FS1. MLB ended up only putting Game 2 on regular FOX.
Same thing happened to me. I got to watch game 1 & 2 of the ALCS then nothing. NOT OK!
Announcers going insane about bad rule in the Cubs – Dodgers game. So they would rather have the possibility of a violent collusion at the plate and maybe ending the career of the catcher or the runner? They apparently are not old enough to remember Pete Rose crushing Fosse at the plate and Fosse was never the same again.
I live in Canada love baseball and get all The Post Season MLB on regular cable.
Shame on the MLB FOR NOT broadcasting all the play off games on broadcast TV!!! I’m retired and a veteran and can’t afford cable or satellite TV I just have the good old Antenna on the roof for TV, just like millions of other people. Baseball is the American pastime and Americans should be able to watch it on TV for free.
ALCS Game 2 is on FOX. Other than that, you’re out of luck until the World Series. If you by any chance have a streaming media player (Apple TV, Roku, etc.) — or even just a smartphone or tablet if you’re willing to watch on a small screen — you can sign up for a one-week free trial of Playstation Vue, Sling, DirecTV Now or Hulu to watch the LCS games on FS1 and TBS.
Sorry, but SLING TV is in the middle of a war with FOX so, FOX has pulled FS1, FS2, and the FOX Broadcast signal from SLING TV users until they can come to an agreement. So, you better look elsewhere if you are planning to use Sling TV to watch some of the American League playoff games.

Shame on MLB allowing these games to be shown on FS1 which isn’t a part of basic cable. My father, almost 90 years old, is a lifelong Yankees fan. He’s in the hospital and hasn’t seen one of these games. Hospitals don’t spend money on cable Tv.
These FS1 announcing the Astros v Boston division championship games are making me so mad!!!! So biased for the Red Sox…. ridiculous to have a former Boston player calling this game. I’m an Astros fan and this is causing me to mute my TV so I don’t have to listen to them.
