For the second time in three years, golf’s U.S. Open will be ready for primetime on NBC.
NBC will air live coverage of the 2010 U.S. Open in primetime on the East Coast, Sports Business Journal reported earlier this week. The ’10 U.S. Open will be played at Pebble Beach in California, a “setting that accommodates a live prime-time finish.”
Programming windows for the ’10 U.S. Open were unavailable.
In 2008, NBC’s U.S. Open coverage aired until 9 PM ET on both Saturday and Sunday. Thanks to the later starts — and Tiger Woods‘ presence — ratings on Saturday and Sunday were the highest since 2003 and 2002, respectively.
In ’08, final round coverage of the U.S. Open and Game 5 of the NBA Finals both aired in primetime on the same night. There will be no such scenario in 2010, as the final round of the U.S. Open is slated for June 20 — three days after the likely date for a Game 7 in the NBA Finals (June 17).
