Though down from last year’s inflated highs, the Little League World Series did well enough over the weekend.
The Japan/Lewisberry (PA) Little League World Series final drew a 2.8 overnight rating on ABC Sunday afternoon, down 20% from South Korea/Chicago last year (3.5) but up 8% from Japan/Chula Vista (CA) in 2013 (2.6). Despite the decline, the 2.8 is easily the highest for a baseball or softball telecast on any network this year.
Head-to-head, the title game topped the final round of The Barclays on CBS, the first leg of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoffs (2.5).
The previous day, the Lewisberry (PA)/Pearland (TX) U.S. championship drew a 2.5 overnight — down 31% from last year’s Chicago/Las Vegas game (3.6) but up 14% from Chula Vista (CA)/Westport (CT) in 2013 (2.2). The 2.5 is the second-highest overnight for a baseball or softball telecast this year.
Rounding out the weekend slate, the Japan/Mexico international final scored a 1.6 overnight — down a tick from South Korea/Japan last year (1.7) and even with Japan/Mexico in 2013 (1.6).
