With Tiger Woods missing the playoffs and Jordan Spieth missing the cut, The Barclays still managed an increase in overnight ratings.
Final round coverage of The Barclays, the first event of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoffs, earned a 2.5 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon — up 9% from last year (2.3) but down 32% from 2013, when Woods finished in a tie for second (3.7).
Including majors and WGC events, 18 of the past 25 final round PGA Tour telecasts have had an increase in overnight ratings.
Though up from last year, Sunday’s telecast does not rank very well historically. Excluding rainouts, the 2.5 overnight is tied as the second-lowest for final round coverage of the event since 2008 (1.8). It also failed to top its head-to-head competition, the Little League World Series final on ABC (2.8) and an NFL preseason game on FOX (4.1).
Third round action on Saturday drew a 2.0 overnight, up 18% from last year (1.7) but down 9% from 2013 (2.2). 20 of the past 25 third round telecasts have had an increase in overnights.
