FOX saw a big decline for its first primetime college football game of the season.
The California/Texas college football game drew a 1.7 overnight rating on FOX Saturday afternoon, down 19% from UCLA/Texas last year (2.1) and down 29% from Ohio State/California in 2013 (2.4).
Despite the drop, the 1.7 is the highest of the season on FOX (three telecasts), easily topping Virginia/UCLA in week one (1.1) and Iowa/Iowa State last week (1.0).
Cal’s one point win over Texas was trounced head-to-head by the Stanford/USC Saturday Night Football game on ABC (2.7) and Mississippi/Alabama on ESPN (4.6). It was the lowest rated college football game of the day on broadcast, finishing narrowly behind ABC’s Noon ET Air Force/Michigan State matchup (1.8).
UPDATE 9/21: Post updated to reflect correct timeslot. Original post mistakenly compared game to afternoon competition.
