Facing tough competition from Major League Baseball, overnight ratings dipped for Thursday Night Football.
The Week 6 Falcons/Saints Thursday Night Football game drew a 10.4 overnight rating on CBS and NFL Network, down 7% from Colts/Texans last year (11.2) but up 44% from Giants/Bears on NFL Network and local affiliates in 2013 (7.2). The 10.4 is the lowest of the season for a primetime NFL game on broadcast television.
The Saints’ win was the first primetime game on broadcast this season to have a decline in overnights.
Keep in mind Thursday’s game aired directly opposite the Mets/Dodgers MLB playoff game on TBS, which had a 5.8 overnight. Last year’s game faced no such competition.
