Facing tough competition, ABC scored its lowest college football overnight of the season on Saturday.
The Oklahoma/Kansas State college football game drew a 1.3 overnight rating on ABC Saturday afternoon, down 52% from regional action featuring TCU/Baylor last year (2.7) and down 48% from another regional window in 2013 (2.5). The 1.3 is easily the lowest of the season on ABC, and the lowest on the network overall since regional action in December 2012 (1.0).
Saturday’s game aired directly opposite both Alabama/Texas A&M on CBS (3.6) and Michigan State/Michigan on ESPN (5.1). It also trailed Game 2 of the MLB American League Championship Series on Fox Sports 1 (1.9).
ABC’s Noon ET window, which featured regional action, drew a 2.3 overnight — down 30% from last year (3.3) and down 38% from 2013 (3.7), both of which were Oklahoma/Texas Red River Rivalry games.
The network scored its best results in primetime, earning a 3.5 for the Penn State/Ohio State Saturday Night Football game. There was no comparable game in previous years due to NASCAR coverage. The Buckeyes’ win trailed Florida/LSU on ESPN (4.0) and Game 1 of the MLB NLCS (5.4) head-to-head, but topped NBC’s USC/Notre Dame game (2.9).
