The Boca Raton Bowl was not as big a draw in its second year, but still pulled ESPN’s top audience of the young bowl season.
Tuesday’s Toledo/Temple Boca Raton Bowl drew nearly 2.0 million viewers on ESPN, down 13% from last year’s inaugural edition between Marshall and Northern Illinois, which aired in a slightly earlier timeslot (2.2M). Ratings were not immediately available.
Despite the double-digit decline, the Rockets’ win scored the largest audience of the bowl season on ESPN (six telecasts). The previous mark was set by the Camellia Bowl on Saturday, which is also in its second year (1.9M).
Even so, the game continued a downward trend for this year’s bowls. Five of the six on ESPN thus far have had a decline in viewership, with four of those five down by double-digits. The aforementioned Camellia Bowl was the only game to increase.
