A pair of blockbuster matchups did not put up merely average numbers on ABC.
The Cavaliers/Thunder NBA regular season game scored a 2.7 overnight rating on ABC Sunday afternoon, down 7% from Bulls/Heat two years ago (2.9). There was no comparable game last year, as ABC dropped its scheduled Cavaliers/Knicks game.
The last time LeBron James and Kevin Durant faced off on ABC, January of last year, the game had a 3.4 overnight. Last year’s game was closer and faced little competition; Sunday’s game was a blowout that faced the Daytona 500.
Daytona was not the only event to top the LeBron/Durant matchup. Final round coverage of the PGA Tour from Riviera narrowly edged Sunday’s game, 2.8 to 2.7.
In other action, Warriors/Clippers scored a 2.6 overnight on ABC’s NBA Saturday Primetime — up a tick from Spurs/Cavaliers three weeks earlier (2.5) but down 10% from the Bulls/Cavaliers four weeks ago (2.9).
