The Olympics took a hit from American Idol on Tuesday night, though the numbers still remained well ahead of 2006.
Primetime coverage of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics drew a 14.4 overnight rating on NBC Tuesday night, up 12% from a 12.9 for the comparable night of the 2006 Turin Olympics, but down 13% from a 16.6 for Monday night’s coverage.
The 14.4 overnight for Tuesday’s coverage is the lowest so far for primetime coverage of the Olympics.
Boosted by American Idol, FOX won the night in primetime — topping NBC by 16% in viewers (23.6 mil to 20.4 mil) and by a whopping 69% among adults 18-49 (9.1/22 to 5.4/14).
