Ratings and viewership increased double-digits for the Honda Classic, though last year’s rain was largely responsible.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Honda Classic earned a 2.1 final rating and 3.2 million viewers on NBC last Sunday, up 24% in ratings and 21% in viewership from last year (1.7, 2.6M) but down 19% and 18%, respectively, from 2014 (2.6, 3.9M). Last year’s comparable coverage featured third and final round action due to rain the previous day.
The 2.1 rating is tied as the third-highest for Sunday coverage of the event in the past nine years, matching 2008 and behind only last year and 2012 (2.8).
For the season, the telecast was the second of five final round windows on broadcast to score an increase in viewership — joining coverage from Pebble Beach two weeks earlier (+39%). For the weekend, it ranked third among all sporting events behind NASCAR from Atlanta (4.1, 6.8M) and Warriors/Thunder NBA action on ABC (3.2, 5.3M).
Third round action the previous day had a 1.4 and 2.1 million, down a tick in ratings but up 1% in viewership from 2014 (from 2.09M to 2.11M). Last year’s Saturday coverage was rained out.
