The PGA Tour ended a three-week slump last weekend, but still hit a season-low.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Texas Open earned a 1.5 final rating and 2.2 million viewers on CBS last Sunday, up 7% in ratings and 11% in viewership from last year (1.4, 2.0M) and down 6% and a fraction of a percent, respectively, from 2014 (1.6, 2.2M). Both last year and in 2014, coverage faced the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
Sunday’s telecast earned the smallest final round audience of the season on a broadcast network (13 telecasts), falling below the previous mark of 2.3 million at Torrey Pines in January. With that said, it also snapped a streak of seven straight declines on broadcast, dating back to the Houston Open three weeks earlier.
Third round action on Saturday had a 1.1 and 1.5 million, down 15% in ratings and 21% in viewership from last year (1.3, 1.9M) and down 8% and 11%, respectively, from 2014 (1.2, 1.7M).
