In what is being described as the “first step” in a series of changes, Major League Baseball has announced that it will eliminate the off day between Games 4 and 5 of the League Championship Series.
Starting this season, there will be no off day between Games 4 and 5 of the AL and NL Championship Series, meaning the middle three games of the series will take place over three straight nights.
The off day was added during the 2007 postseason.
This is merely the “first implementation of change” to Major League Baseball’s postseason. In 2011, “additional changes” will be considered to “make the postseason schedule more closely resemble the scheduling that takes place during the regular season.”
With the scheduling changes, the 2010 ALCS on TBS will begin on Friday, October 15, with Game 2 on Saturday, October 16. Meanwhile, the NLCS on FOX will begin on Saturday, October 16, with Game 2 on Sunday, October 17.
The 2010 World Series is set to begin on Wednesday, October 27.
