With Jordan Spieth starting the day in contention, ratings surged for the final round of the PGA’s Byron Nelson Championship.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Byron Nelson Championship delivered a 2.3 final rating and 3.4 million viewers on CBS last Sunday afternoon, up 44% in ratings and 41% in viewership from last year (1.6, 2.4M) and up 53% and 56%, respectively, from 2014 (1.5, 2.2M).
The 2.3 rating is the highest for final round coverage of the event since 2005 (2.5). This year was just the second over that span in which ratings hit the 2.0 mark.
In addition to the multi-year highs, Sunday’s telecast was just the fifth of the past 18 on broadcast to post an increase in ratings and viewership.
Also on that list was last Saturday’s third round, which had a 1.6 and 2.3 million — up 23% in ratings and 22% in viewership from last year (1.3, 1.8M) and up 45% and 46%, respectively, from 2014 (1.1, 1.5M).
