Regular season baseball has not exactly been a ratings hit for FOX.
Regional MLB action featuring Mets/Phillies drew a 1.8 overnight rating on FOX Saturday afternoon, down 10% from last week’s similarly unimpressive 2.0 for coverage featuring Yankees/Angels.
Overnight ratings for last year’s comparable telecast, which also featured Mets/Phillies, were unavailable.
This is the third of the first four MLB telecasts on FOX to draw an overnight of 2.0 or lower. To put that in perspective, ABC drew a 2.0 or lower three times during the entire 2009-10 NBA season.
Barring an unusual — and unlikely — increase from the overnight to the final rating, Saturday’s telecast will also be the third of the season to draw a sub-2.0 final rating.
Despite the lower numbers, Mets/Phillies did outdraw third round coverage of the Quail Hollow Championship on CBS (1.5) and Saturday’s Flyers/Bruins game on NBC (1.6) — though only barely.
