The Olympic women’s golf tournament tied a season-high rating. In other news, Telemundo got a viewership lift from Brazilian soccer, and NASCAR’s Xfinity Series hit a season-low opposite the Olympics.
Olympic Women’s Golf Ties Season-High
- First round coverage of the Olympic women’s golf competition earned a 0.2 final rating and 217,000 viewers on Golf Channel Wednesday afternoon, matching the ANA Inspiration as the highest rated opening round of any women’s tournament this season. Of the four women’s majors this year, only the ANA Inspiration posted a larger opening round audience.
Brazil Soccer Lifts Telemundo
- Coverage of the Olympics featuring the Brazil/Honduras men’s soccer semifinal earned 382,000 viewers on Telemundo Wednesday afternoon, up 16% from London in 2012. The previous day, coverage featuring the Brazil/Sweden women’s semifinal attracted a slightly larger audience of 394,000.
NASCAR Xfinity Hits Low Opposite Olympics
- NASCAR Xfinity Series racing from Mid-Ohio earned a 0.6 final rating and 985,000 viewers on USA Network last Saturday, down a tick in ratings and 4% in viewership from last year on NBCSN (0.7, 1.0M) and down a third in both measures from 2014 on ESPN (0.9, 1.5M). As should be no surprise, given the Olympic competition, it was the least-watched Xfinity Series race of the season.
