With the Patriots on their third-string quarterback and the Texans bringing nothing to the table, Thursday Night Football still scored a multi-year high in the overnights.
The Week 3 Texans/Patriots Thursday Night Football game earned a 12.5 overnight rating on CBS and NFL Network, up 5% from Washington/Giants last year (11.9), up 47% from Buccaneers/Falcons in 2014 (8.5) and the highest ever for TNF in Week 3 of the season (dates back to 2012).
The Patriots’ shutout win, which peaked at a 13.6 from 9-9:30 PM ET, was the fifth of 14 NFL telecasts this season to post an increase in the overnights. Of those five, it was just the second that did not air on FOX.
Of the 18 Thursday Night Football simulcasts on CBS (dates back to 2014), Thursday’s game ranks sixth in the overnights.
