Back on TBS, and with the Red Sox back in the playoffs, the American League Division Series got off to a stronger start in the metered markets.
Game 1 of the Red Sox/Indians ALDS earned a 3.7 overnight rating on TBS Tuesday night, up 61% from Astros/Royals on Fox Sports 1 last year (2.3) and up 16% from Royals/Angels on TBS in 2014 (3.2). The 3.7 is the highest for the first day of the Division Series since at least 2012.
The Indians’ win, which peaked at a 4.2 from 9:45-10 PM ET, scored a 25.4 rating in Cleveland and a 16.0 in Boston. In each market, it was the highest rated game since the team’s most recent playoff series — the 2007 ALCS for the Indians and the 2013 World Series for the Red Sox.
Earlier in the day, Blue Jays/Rangers Game 1 had a 1.5 overnight — up 15% from the same matchup on FS1 last year (1.3) but down 44% from Tigers/Orioles on TBS in 2014 (2.7). Figures do not include the Toronto market, which does not count toward U.S. television ratings.
