After going low in Week 5, Monday Night Football went even lower in Week 6.
The Week 6 Jets/Cardinals Monday Night Football game had a 6.3 overnight rating on ESPN, down 34% from Giants/Eagles lats year (9.6) and down 27% from 49ers/Rams in 2014 (8.6). According to Sports Business Daily, the 6.3 is the lowest ever for MNF in Week 6 of the season — the second straight week and third of the past four that MNF has hit an all-time low.
All seven MNF telecasts have hit multi-year lows, with five of those seven down double-digits year-over-year.
The Cardinals’ win, which peaked at a 7.7 from 9:45-10 PM ET, earned the second-lowest MNF overnight of the season — ahead of only Falcons/Saints opposite the first presidential debate in Week 3 (5.7) and behind Buccaneers/Panthers last week (6.5).
No MNF telecast last season had an overnight lower than 7.4. Already this season, four of ESPN’s seven telecasts have fallen below that mark.
ESPN’s telecast had a 14.4 rating in Phoenix and a 6.9 in New York City. The game was simulcast on local affiliates in both markets, earning a 15.8 on independent Phoenix affiliate KUTP and a 3.0 on NYC independent affiliate WWOR.
