The much hyped debut of Nationals P Stephen Strasburg attracted record numbers for MASN, though it was not the top sporting event of the night in the Washington, D.C. market.
Tuesday’s Pirates/Nationals game drew a 7.1 rating on MASN2, according to preliminary numbers, easily the highest rating ever for a Nationals game on the network. The previous record was a comparably low 2.0 for two Mets/Nationals games in May.
In a press release, MASN spokesperson Todd Webster called the numbers “simply stunning.” Webster: “Considering the Nationals were up against Game Three of the NBA finals, there is still room for ratings growth.”
Speaking of the NBA Finals, Lakers/Celtics Game 3 (13.8) nearly doubled the ratings of Pirates/Nationals in the Washington market.
Pirates/Nationals also finished behind the season finale of Glee on FOX (9.1).
So far this season, ratings for Nationals games on MASN are up 66%. That is on top of a 67% increase in ratings last season.
