Both FOX and Fox Sports 1 scored some of their best college football numbers of the season last weekend.
FOX earned a 2.5 final rating and 4.3 million viewers for last Saturday’s USC/Washington college football game, up 47% in ratings and 54% in viewership from Oregon/Stanford last year (1.7, 2.8M) and up 92% and 91%, respectively, from Kansas State/TCU in 2014 (1.3, 2.2M).
The Huskies’ upset loss earned the second-best rating and viewership on FOX this season, trailing only Ohio State/Oklahoma in week three (3.4, 5.8M). Going back further, it delivered the sixth-largest college football audience ever on FOX, excluding conference championship and bowl games.
Head-to-head, Saturday’s game was no match for Michigan/Iowa on ABC, which had a 3.8 and 6.4 million. It ranked fourth for the weekend among all networks, also trailing Auburn/Georgia on CBS (2.9, 5.0M) and Pittsburgh/Clemson on ABC (3.0, 4.9M).
Over on Fox Sports 1, West Virginia/Texas scored a 0.7 and 1.3 million on Saturday afternoon — up 133% in ratings and 219% in viewership from Kansas/TCU last year (0.3, 398K) but down 46% and 38%, respectively, from Baylor/Oklahoma in 2014 (1.3, 2.0M).
It was the fourth-most watched game on FS1 this season, behind Washington/Utah in week eight (1.4M), Texas/Oklahoma in week six (2.8M) and Kansas State/Stanford in week one (1.4M).
Texas Tech/Oklahoma State had a 0.6 and 901,000 later in the afternoon, up 100% in ratings and 118% in viewership from Kansas State/Texas Tech last year (0.3, 414K) but down 25% and 32%, respectively, from West Virginia/Texas in ’14 (0.8, 1.3M). The momentum did not extend to Colorado/Arizona late in the night, which had a 0.2 (-37%) and 374,000 (-35%).
