Mike Greenberg‘s possible move up to ESPN is becoming a reality. In other news, Holly Rowe will make her debut as a play-by-play voice for gymnastics, and Fox Sports has picked up a new soccer host.
Greenberg Moving to New ESPN Show
- ESPN Mike & Mike in the Morning co-host Mike Greenberg will leave the program this year to serve as lead host of a new ESPN morning show, Sports Illustrated reported Thursday. The move was first reported by SI last September, back when it was only being floated by ESPN executives. The new show would blend “elements of SportsCenter” and those of a “traditional morning show,” presumably in the same vein as First Take predecessor Cold Pizza. Greenberg has partnered with Mike Golic on Mike & Mike for nearly 19 years. (SI.com 1/12)
Rowe Adds Gymnastics Play-By-Play
- ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe will make her debut as a college gymnastics play-by-play voice Friday night calling the Georgia/Auburn meet on SEC Network. Rowe, who debuted on college gymnastics last week as a sideline reporter, is scheduled to call eight meets this season alongside analyst Courtney Kupets-Carter. She has previously worked play-by-play on college basketball, college volleyball and the Women’s World Cup. (ESPN Media Zone 1/12)
Fox Sports Hires Abdo Full Time
- Fox Sports has hired Sky Sports studio host Kate Abdo to serve in the same capacity on its soccer coverage. She previously served as a studio host for the network’s 2015 Women’s World Cup coverage and associated friendlies. As noted by Awful Announcing, Fox has yet to formally announce the move, though it has updated her bio to reflect her full-time role. (Awful Announcing 1/13)
